Objectives: To explain and explore in detail the phases of the moon.
Opening: Review a warm up activity: The phases of the moon are caused by the sun’s reflection onto the moon causing a light side and a dark side. The students will be asked to label a picture that includes the sun earth, and 8 moons to show each of the phases that the moon goes through.
Engagement: Phases of the moon will be reviewed on a powerpoint for the class to take notes in their scientists notebooks. Then they will be asked to fill out a worksheet that asks specific questions on the phases of the moon and the rotation of the earth and orbit of the moon.
Closing: As a class we will review the worksheets.
